MacBook Promo PicApple’s new MacBook Pro will have an Intel Core 2 Duo that runs on 45-nm process technology at speeds up to 2.6GHz with up to 6MB of L2 cache. Its SSE4 vector engine handles 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle.

It is also said to have NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with up to 512MB of GDDR3 memory, and larger hard drives. “In the 15-inch MacBook Pro, you can choose a 200GB or 250GB 5400-rpm hard drive or a 200GB 7200-rpm drive. In the 17-inch model, choose a 250GB 5400-rpm, 200GB 7200-rpm, or 300GB 4200-rpm hardApple Store Screenshot drive.”

The performance page says this:

The new MacBook Pro features the latest mobile processor from Intel. The Intel Core 2 Duo runs on 45-nm process technology at speeds up to 2.6GHz with up to 6MB of L2 cache. Its SSE4 vector engine handles 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle, accelerating data manipulation by simultaneously applying a single instruction to multiple data. That means you can get more done in less time.

Supporting the superfast Intel Core 2 Duo is an advanced system architecture with up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory, an 800MHz frontside bus, and 16-lane PCI Express graphics.

The new Intel processor and advanced system architecture make MacBook Pro one of the most sophisticated notebooks on the planet.

Update: It is confirmed, the new MacBook Pro 2.6GHz is available in the Apple Store, though the image in the shop index does not yet have the “new” tag.
